History
Originally home to the ancient Secwepemc people, the region's first European settlers were drawn here by the fur trade and later by the mid-nineteenth century Gold Rush. Cowboys and cattle ranchers followed not long after. When the Canadian Pacific Railway laid tracks in the late 1800s, displacing the paddle wheelers and wagon-trains before them, a wave of homesteading immigrants arrived to the area. Among them were the founders of Six Mile Ranch -- now home to Tobiano.
Six Mile Ranch is testimony to this land's hardscrabble heritage - a heritage that is integral to the plans for Tobiano. As a residential and resort community, Tobiano residents can reconnect with the land's agricultural, ranching and equestrian heritage.
Today you can still feel the spirit of the hardy souls who tamed the land, looking for life's elusive rewards. Only now these rewards - live, rest and play -- can be found at Tobiano.
